BACKSTAGE: Little Mermaid
Late last year I was hired to shoot an ad for OPI in partnership with Disney Pictures for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides. OPI promotes new nail colors with new films quite often. It was definitely a departure from my usual shoots, but it was definitely a fun gig. The mermaid suit you see in the behind the scenes shots is hand made by the guy who actually created the mermaid costume for Daryl Hannah in the 80’s movie Splash with Tom Hanks. We shot Wet Seal’s Denim line last May at my studio. It was a full house, with five models, two makeup artists, and two hairstylists, along with the usual suspects. It was a very simple concept – the five different types of denim were to be given their own “personality” by each of the models, such as the “showstopper.” Lighting was very straightforward and meant to showcase the denim’s washes and colors.
