Late last year I was hired to shoot an ad for OPI in partnership with Disney Pictures for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides. OPI promotes new nail colors with new films quite often. It was definitely a departure from my usual shoots, but it was definitely a fun gig. The mermaid suit you see in the behind the scenes shots is hand made by the guy who actually created the mermaid costume for Daryl Hannah in the 80’s movie Splash with Tom Hanks.
The mermaid in the ad is my good friend and actress/singer Cindy Vela. Many thanks to Sharon Tabb who also joined us to do hair and makeup, and of course to the assistants that day, Dondee Quincena and Jerome Brua.
The ad is being run in major women’s publications such as Elle, Cosmopolitan, Allure, Lucky, and InStyle.
